Adana,
where
turnip juice comes from, is located in the south-eastern Mediterranean
region of Turkey. Adana soils, 14.000 Km2,
extends from the Mediterranean shores to the southern skirts of the Taurus
mountains.
Adana is the seventh biggest city of Turkey with a population of 1.693.332. It is the centre of the Çukurova plateau both from the economic and civil point of views. Adana has a typical Mediterranean climate: winters, mild and rainy; summers, hot and dry. Scrubs and bushes, characteristic to the Mediterranean shores, are the major flora. Adana, located in the Çukurova plateau that is one of the most productive regions on the Anatolia peninsula, is the locomotive of Turkey from the agricultural economy point of view. 7.8% of Turkey's agricultural products is supplied from this region. Major agricultural products are wheat, cotton, soy bean, maze, barley, and citrus fruits. Besides agriculture, Adana is one of the most industrialized cities of Turkey. Textile industry is the key sector. Adana has the largest organized industrial area, 11.000.000 m2, in Turkey. Yumurtalık, a southern town of Adana, is the end-point of the pipe-line carrying Iraqi petrol to the Mediterranean sea. With its free zone and the implementation of the Baku-Ceyhan pipe-line which will carry Caspian petrol to the Mediterranean sea, Adana is expected to be a focus for international investments. Nowadays, Adana is one of the major cities of Turkey with its modern university, hospitals, hotels, and international airport.
